I have been going to SW Florida for 30 years, timesharing there in January for at least 15 years.

I have been searching RCI for SW FL for January almost every day since RCI.com began (1997). I have recorded the results since March 27, 2002.

I have maintained a lengthy thread on the TUG Florida board, now in it's fourth or fifth generation, about what I've seen, for several years.

I am very familiar with SW Florida resorts, from Punta Gorda on down.

Generally, for January, the better resorts, the HGVCs on the beach, stopped being available in 2006. I have a simplified graph showing that and a list of resorts most likely to be available which I call The Normal Suspects.
