Timeshare Selling Question Answered on Today Show

A recent Today Show segment featured expert advice on many real estate topics including the best way to sell a timeshare. The expert, Barbara Corcoran, answered this question and I have quoted her professional answer below:

Don't call your local real estate broker if you want to sell a time share. Time shares are the odd ducks of the real estate business and the best place to sell an odd duck is online.

Barbara Corcoran is a real estate genius. As a real estate investor I value her advice, opinions and will to succeed. I know a little about timeshare having sold them in the early 80's. I got out before I was corrupted by the lack of ethical standards I perceived from the resort's on-site sales management, but learned some interesting things during my time there. The resort spends a great deal of money in promotional ploys to attract timeshare buyers and these expenses are passed on to the buyer. These promotional costs are tacked onto an already overblown price for a one week vacation. Recovering these expenses when reselling is a near impossibility. When reselling a timeshare this must be considered. The resort will neither help with reselling nor will they buy back the timeshare(at least not to my knowledge). Realtors, as Barbara explained, do not sell timeshare so the internet makes sense.

why dont realtor sell timeshares
it is a deed note for property
they can sell and take a percent like a house ?

$$$. Because there is is no real money in it.

And timeshares are tuff to market for a commission-based realtor.

Sell. A big marketing force is needed to sell our time share re sale just like when we bought it. Time shares area luxury item and luxury items are marketed very aggresively. When reselling your time share keep this in mind-I have visited several websites about selling my time share but I haven't found any other site that publishes time share sales and offers besides this one. Im not endorsing this site but if I sell I'll want to see REAL time share buyer offers and time share re sales before I sell.
