When someone is selling their timeshare, are you actually purchasing the property or is it just renting it? Is a timeshare considered a real estate investment where you can rent a property out to people? Must you be experienced in timeshares in order to turn a profit from the investment? What would be the average price for the Cancun property listed above?
I'm interested in real estate investment, and maybe this would be an option, but I'm new to both fields, so I would appreciate any help! Thanks!

| | Timeshare - Selling? Renting? Investment?
Hi fashionpassion...
Timeshare is considered real estate property, but rarely is it considered a financial investment. Timeshare is deeded property ownership, so an owner of timeshare may rent-out their deeded week or sell the ownership entirely, if they choose to do so.
Many timeshare owners rent-out their week(s) or their points/credits in order to cover their annual maintenance fees/taxes and to bring-in some extra cash. Timeshare Adventures offers a full-service program for both one occassion and long-term rental interests of timeshare owners.

TSA Staff,
I really love this website--being new to the timeshare game, you have offered so much great advice and a forum that brings together a collective base of knowledge from sellers, buyers, owners, etc! It's the perfect place to conduct research, I don't think I could get better advice elsewhere!
The more I log on, the more confident I get about my knowledge within the timeshare industry, and I plan to continue to seek advice here up to my first purchase (that is the goal!)
Thanks!!

Hi Fashion,
Making money off selling timeshares is not easy but can be done. Buying a timeshare property in a high demand area at a low price is really the only way to earn a profit. You also need a timeshare resale company that can direct potential buyers to your listing. For most people timeshares are an investment in their vacation lifestyle which in return is good for their mental health and well being. Life passes by quickly and too much work and not enough play isn't good. I agree about this website and forum, the info about timesharing here is better than any other source I've come across.

I’m going to agree with that statement. But depending on where you got your unit or when you bought it is going to be the deciding factor on weather your unit turns a profit or not. For Example you bought in to Fairfield back in the late 80’s or early 90’s before they became point based and you transferred to points when it was switched over giving you a higher resale value on the points then what you paid in to the resort.
