Question Timeshare Rental Question: Renting RCI Points?

I'm getting mixed signals from different timeshare resale companies about renting-out/selling my RCI points. It seems like some companies are quick to tell me "YES...no problem...we can help"(for a fee, of course), while a few others have told me differently. I read somewhere that RCI does not allow the renting-out/selling of their points, but I have used the points to book a week for friends and family in the past at a couple timeshare resorts, then notified the resort that it would be someone other than myself would be checking-in without a problem. I really don't see what the big deal is. At this point RCI is out of the picture, so I would guess that when renting/selling the points the same would be true. I've learned a lot by exploring this site, so I thought I would see what your policy an opinion is in this regard.

Can I rent my exchanged timeshare RCI points? What's the procedure? And finally, if RCI finds out are there repercussions? I'm thankful for any help

Default Renting RCI or Interval International Points or Weeks

Hi sundaydriver6,

This a common question and you will find a variety of answers from various sources. RCI does have a policy forbidding the sale or renting-out their points/weeks, but you're absolutely correct about RCI being 'out of the loop' once a week has been booked at a specific timeshare location and the resort loves having fresh people checking-in because they are potential buyers!

Timeshare Adventures has a policy about accepting RCI or Interval International points/weeks simply because they have yet to be booked at a specific resort and/or for a specific time, so marketing and advertising something that for lack of a better phrase "is still in Limbo". When it comes to RCI and/or Interval International, because of the vast amount of potentially obtainable, affiliated timeshare properties within their community it is extremely difficult and in most cases impossible to acquire the specific timeshare property and the exact dates the potential renter is seeking. It is also a cumbersome task; maintaining contact with the renter, contacting you to call the exchange company to request the exact timeshare resort or area and dates the potential renter is seeking. Not entirely impossible, but rarely successful and there are much simpler ways to go about it.

Because of the above mentioned troubles, Timeshare Adventures has an ethical policy against accepting RCI or Interval International points/weeks unless you use your exchange to book a week at a specific timeshare resort for a specific time. This way we can market the timeshare effectively and advertise the timeshare as being somewhere for a certain week. When we are approached by a potential renter seeking a timeshare rental in Orlando for example we can guide them to the resort that has been booked and make it accessible via our website when they search our rental 'Ad Listings'.

So, when you have banked weeks or points and are wanting to rent-out, we advise that you choose a timeshare resort and a week within the exchange company's community of timeshare properties and then use Timeshare Adventures to advertise the timeshare week and/or unit to be rented.

As for repercussions with RCI or II, I've heard the same thing. The exchange companies can revoke your membership or penalize the member with a fee, but as you mentioned once the week or points have been booked the exchange company is 'out of the loop'. My advice is to be careful and if possible think about renting-out your deeded timeshare property instead.

If any timeshare owner has experience in this regard, we welcome you input in our Timeshare Forums.

Default Renting RCI Points

Thanks for the quick reply. Why would these other companies tell me that they can definitely help and make it sound so easy? I'm guessing it's my money they're after because those who told me "YES, YES, YES" were almost as aggressive and high presseure as many of the timeshare salespeople I've dealt with at various timeshare rsort properties........Guess I've answered my own question
